Rachel Daly will soon be leaving the warm late summer days of Houston and returning to England as she has been called into England’s Women’s National Team by head coach Phil Neville.
The former St. John’s star and her England teammates have two upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches, August 31 at Wales and September 4 against Kazakhstan, as the team looks to qualify for its fourth consecutive World Cup.
Daly has earned 10 caps for the Lionesses, which includes two appearances earlier this year in the SheBelieves Cup. She earned her first senior cap in June of 2014 against Serbia and scored in that match, a 7-0 England win.
This season with Houston Dash of the NWSL, Daly has 9 goals and 2 assists. Over the past five matches, she has 5 goals and 2 assists as Houston battles for playoff position. Currently in seventh place, the Dash sits four points out of third place. The top four teams in the league qualify for the postseason.
Daly is also one of only two NWSL players named to England’s 23-player squad joining Jodie Taylor of Seattle Reign.
