Cosmos B Top Brooklyn To Win NPSL North Atlantic Title

New York Cosmos B won the NPSL North Atlantic Conference Title with a 5-3 penalty shootout win over Brooklyn Italians Saturday night.

With the win, New York advances to the league’s Northeast Region Semifinals against FC Frederick of the Mid-Atlantic Conference. The match is set for July 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The Cosmos played the final 13 minutes of regulation time as well as extra time down a man as Midfielder Rafa Garcia was issued a red card in the 77th minute.

Brooklyn took a 1-0 in the 67th as Adelphi University senior James Thristino of Port Jefferson Station found the back of the net. Eight minutes later, New York’s Zaire Bartley would equalize for Cosmos B.

Tickets for the Cosmos B/FC Frederick match will be available at the stadium starting on 6:30 p.m. on match day for only $10. All proceeds from ticket sales go to Street Soccer USA to help fund after-school soccer programs for at-risk children in New York City.
