Awad, Fitzgerald Receive Weekly Northeast Conference Honors

For the second time this season, LIU Brooklyn women’s soccer forward Marian Awad was named the Northeast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.

In addition, Holbrook’s Amanda Fitzgerald, a junior goalkeeper at Fairleigh Dickinson, was named a Northeast Conference Prime Performer.

A senior from Haifa, Israel, Awad scored a goal in each of the Blackbirds’ games this past week, as the team went 1-1. Against Hartford, she scored the game-tying goal in the 60th minute in a 4-2 loss to the Hawks. She then scored the game-winning goal in LIU Brooklyn’s 1-0 overtime win over Iona.

Through the first seven games of the season, Awad has scored five of the Blackbirds’ nine goals. As of September 11, she is currently second in the NEC in scoring with 10 points (five goals), averaging 1.43 points a game.

Fitzgerald, a graduate of Sachem East High School, was honored after making 10 combined saves this past week in matches against Hofstra and Army. She made seven saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Pride and three saves in a scoreless draw vs. Army.
