Adelphi’s men’s soccer team is ranked second in the Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches Poll, coming in just three points behind defending conference champions Merrimack.

The Warriors edged out the Panthers 158 points to 155 points with each team garnering 5 first-place votes. The recent United Soccer Coaches Division II Preseason Poll included Adelphi at No. 13 and Merrimack at No. 22.

Five different Northeast-10 programs received at least one first-place vote. In addition to Merrimack and Adelphi, other first-place votes went to Southern New Hampshire (2), Le Moyne (1), and Southern Connecticut (1)

While Merrimack outgained Adelphi by three points to earn the top spot, Southern Connecticut finished third in the poll earning 139 total points. Just behind the Owls was Southern New Hampshire with 138 points and Le Moyne with 131 points.

The 2018 season will begin on Thursday, August 30, with 10 NE10 teams beginning their campaigns. Perhaps the biggest game on the slate during that opening night of play is a showdown between Adelphi and longtime rival LIU Post, two of the premier program in the East Region traditionally.

The NE10 Championship will begin with Quarterfinal action on Tuesday, October 30, followed by the Semifinals on Friday, November 2. The Championship Final will be played on Sunday, November 4. All rounds of this year’s conference championship will be hosted by the higher seeded team.
